It was all going well up to half-time. Although City did signal their intent as early as the first minute when Ellis Martin met the ball at the far post from a corner and put the home side one up.
Peacehaven were giving as good as they were getting with Haven’s Tyler Scrafton (pictured) unlucky not to have earned a penalty when he was bundled over in the box.
On 18 minutes Mikey Lloyd hit the Chichester post after a good move. Fraser Massen’s long throws were causing problems in the City box and there was a good pace and intensity to the game. But Chichester always looked dangerous when they broke.
On 36 minutes Scrafton scored his first goal for the club when Sid Adams crossed, Lloyd headed down and Scrafton made it 1-1.
On 40 minutes City came close after Massen headed clear from a free-kick and the follow-up shot from a City player was inches wide.
Right on the stroke of half time Matthews in the City goal palmed away a thunderbolt from Adams and Scrafton was inches away with the follow-up.
Half time: Chichester City 1, Peacehaven & Telscombe 1.
The second half was an altogether different tale. With just two minutes played of the second period Secka in the Haven goal was beaten from distance by a Rob Hutchings shot. On 55 minutes City were 3-1 ahead through Matt Axell. City were pushing for more and soon after hit the bar.
Peacehaven were up for the challenge and after a corner Scrafton’s shot was just wide. On the hour Curt Ford had a good chance but his shot was also wide. And then three minutes later another long throw from Massen found Muller but his header went straight at the keeper.
On 67 minutes the game was over when Dave Herbert made it 4-1. Another goal from Axell and a penalty in the 87th minute by Joao Andrade finished things off for the home side.
Final score: Chichester City 6, Peacehaven & Telscombe 1.
Peacehaven & Telscombe: Secka, Alperti-Jones, Adams, Cheeseman, Massen, Muller, Legrange, Grant, Ford, Scarfton, Lloyd. Subs: Bant, Richmond, Burton, Brocklebank, Bish.
