This Extra Preliminary Round FA Cup tie resumes again on Tuesday evening at the Unibet Arena and this time there must be a winner!
Both teams had contrasting styles. Peacehaven & Telscombe with their neat possession football and Newhaven with their more direct approach.
Although goalless, the game was full of thrills and spills. Peacehaven went close on several occasions and captain Reilly Grant (pictured) was immense throughout. He played the box to box game perfectly, breaking up attacks and setting up chances.
Peacehaven’s defence look sound and Ellis Cowd marshalled Newhaven danger man Lee Robinson superbly. And in goal, Loz Sanded pulled off a number of superb saves to deny the home side.
In the early stages, the game was evenly balanced and Newhaven hit the side netting on 22 minutes.
This was after Coner Wilkins had gone close and with Peacehaven just in the ascendency.
On 24 minutes the diminutive Cam Wiltshire was starting to exert his influence in midfield and Wilkins was spraying passes around.
On 34 minutes a 25 pass sequence which involved nearly all the team and started by Sanded in the visitors’ goal resulted in the impressive Elliot Levy firing just over.
Peacehaven were beginning to dominate, but when Newhaven broke they looked dangerous but Reilly Grant was on hand on several occasions to break up the play to snuff out the danger.
Peacehaven looked the more dangerous of the two sides as the second half got underway. Marshall went close forcing a good save from Buss in the home goal after good work from Legrange and Mikey Lloyd saw his effort end up in the side netting.
On 66 minute Peacehaven defender Marcus Allen was on hand to make a timely interception while Ellis Cowd was looking more composed, assured and dominant as the game wore on.
On 80 minutes Newhaven’s Dartnall was sent off for a reckless foul. But this was an isolated incident and the game, in the main, was played in a good spirit.
With the clock ticking down Josh Marshall and Cal Wiltshire both went close but Peacehaven couldn’t make their one player advantage pay.
Tuesday’s replay kicks-off at 7.45. Entrance is £6 adults and for over 65s it’s £4. Under 18s get in for free. You are advised to get to the ground in plenty of time because a large crowd is expected.
