The best way to keep up to date with Peacehaven & Telscombe FC

Saturday is derby day

NEWHAVEN are the visitors to the Unibet Arena on Saturday for Peacehaven's most eagerly awaited home game of the season.

Unbelievably this will be the fifth time the two teams have met this season.

On August 5 the season opener saw Peacehaven away to Newhaven in the FA Cup. That game ended all square at 0-0. Newhaven then won the subsequent replay at the Unibet Arena 2-0 which saw Peacehaven goalkeeper Loz Sanded given his marching orders.

The next meeting was a pulsating affair in the Peter Bentley Cup. The game was all square at 3-3 after extra time and went to a penalty shoot-out. Again Newhaven defeated their old rivals, this time it was 5-4 in the shootout.

The fourth time the two sides met was on September 26 in a league game. This time Peacehaven earned the bragging rights with a well-deserved 2-1 win at the Trafalgar Ground with goals from Riley Grant and Elliot Levy. This win was even more significant as it propelled Peacehaven to top spot in the league.

In Saturday’s fifth and final encounter of the season it is still all to play for and if any of the previous games are anything to go by, fans are in for a treat.

Newhaven’s danger man is Lee Robinson. The striker just cannot stop scoring and is top of the SCPL goal scoring charts having already notched 26 times in the league this season - seven more than his nearest rival. And Robinson is also responsible for more than 60% of Newhaven’s 43 league goals and is a real threat.

In their five recent games, Newhaven have won two, drawn two and lost one. Last weekend they defeated Lancing away 2-1.

Peacehaven meanwhile got back to winning ways last week when they comprehensively defeated Littlehampton 5-0 away.

The Dockers are in 11th spot in the league with 31 points from 24 games. While Peacehaven, who have scored one goal less than the visitors are seventh with 42 points from 25 games. The game looks beautifully poised.

The game kicks-off at 3pm. Entry is £6 for adults, £4 for over 65s and under 18s get in for free.
