Tournament voted a resounding success

THE FIRST youth tournament staged at the Unibet Arena in six years was a spectacular success.

Peacehaven & Telscombe FC’s youth chairman Steve Davies writes:

This was the first youth tournament we have staged in at least six years. It was also the first I have organised and been responsible for.

In all honesty I thought the task was too big to take on. Fortunately u10s manager Sean Collier was having none of it! His enthusiasm gave me the belief that we could do it.

On a personal level, over the years I have been to a lot of tournaments and witnessed all the problems than can occur, from parking, scoring and of course our unpredictable weather etc.

Fortunately the weather was on our side and everything over the weekend ran very smoothly. This was helped by our state of the art computer scoring system which impressed everyone with the speed it updated the league tables.

Ninety six teams took part with more than 750 players and an estimated 1500 spectators watched the action over the two days.

There are so many people to thank for helping make this tournament the success it was including parents, youth managers and the committee. I would like again to thank Sean Collier as without him we wouldn't have got the tournament off the ground.

I would also like to thank Mike Bradbury for sorting out the fixtures and programmes; Sue Norwood and Sue Knevitt and their staff for feeding everyone and Bob and Lynn Juden for supplying liquid refreshment from the bar. And Derek Earley for keeping everyone up to date on the PA.

With a few tweaks we can really make this bigger and better next year. So I am pleased to use the Peacehaven motto and say: ‘we go again’.
