The season has flown by
By Sue Norwood
Chair, Peacehaven & Telscombe FC
Another season has flown by and I cannot believe we are about to play our final league game of the season on Saturday.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank every one of our fans for the support they give our teams and the club. Without you we would not be in our current position and able to maintain Southern Combination football. You are there in all weathers, and my goodness it can be cold at Peacehaven, and I am truly grateful.
All teams have done amazing across all ages and levels and every week they entertain us all. I love the way we play football, and it especially makes me proud when other clubs complement us and say how they like playing against a team that actually plays football using all players, not just hoofing it up the park. So keep it up.
Finally I would like to say thank-you to everyone behind the scenes; board members, football coaching staff, bar and kitchen support staff, kit washing (and there is a lot of it across 20 teams), Steve Mills programme editor and club photographer and everyone else who lends a hand.
I do appreciate the hours and effort you all put in. Nobody truly realises what it takes to run a club of our size and standard until they put their hands up and offer support!
As a club we are always looking for more volunteers, so please let myself or one of my team know and we will welcome you with open arms.
Of course on May 6 we have the RUR Cup Final against Haywards Heath at Lancing to look forward to, and I know many of you will be making the trip to support Mark and the boys. But first we have another local derby on Saturday, this time at Saltdean, which will round off our league programme.
I hope you all have a great few weeks break and hope to see you all in July when the pre-season friendlies begin and we start to do it all over again!
We stand together
By Mark Shutt
First team manager and director of football
Supporters are the lifeblood of any organisation and the supporters of our football club are just brilliant.
You stand together with us whether we win, lose or draw. You’re there in the sun, rain and wind and the players respond to your support and the energy you generate.
As we head to the RUR Cup Final on May 6 at Lancing, the club’s first senior cup final in five years, we will need all your support, your energy, your voices as you are our twelfth and very important man and are a hugely influential part of the team.
We cannot do it alone. More than ever before, we need you and we hope many of you will come and stand by us as we give everything for you, our supporters one more time this season in the cup final.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my assistant Dan Norwood, Clive Blunt, Brett Powell, Dave Croydon and Ritchie Nelson for everything they have done to support me this season. Also Rob Thomsett, the reserve team manager, Russ Hughes, third team manager, Jason Edwards U18 manager plus everyone else who has coached, supported and generally played their part in our great off field team at Peacehaven & Telscombe FC.
From me, my coaches and all the players I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to you for your tremendous support over the season. Thank-you.
A good season
By Clive Blunt
Under 23 manager
Last Tuesday night’s three points against Rottingdean was the icing on our league cake this season and meant we finished in third place in a very competitive league.
What is also pleasing are the number of local lads coming through who are good enough to play at this level. Many have already tasted first team football and I fully expect many more of this season’s squad to follow next season.
With the excellent work that Jason Edwards has done with the under 18s, I’ve been able to blood some of these youngsters into the under 23s so we are already seeing a decent throughput of young players who are developing as young men and players at our brilliant football club.
Even though the league season has finished, we still have the chance of making a final in the charity cup competition we are still in.
Finally, I would like to thank Graham Clark (Clarky) my assistant manager, Shutty and the rest of the coaching team and all the board at our great club for their continued help and support. See you all next season.
