This course is ideal for anyone working with young people aged eight to 18 where the latest NHS digital survey on youth mental health in England revealed that one in 12 children or young people had an emotional disorder, which includes anxiety, depression and bipolar.
It also found that emotional disorders had increased by almost fifty percent in five to 15-year-olds since 2004 - in both boys and girls. Seventeen - 19-year-olds have the highest incidence of emotional disorders compared to one in seven in other age groups.
Becoming a Mental Health First Aider will equip you with the skills and knowledge to respond to a child or young person showing signs and symptoms of emotional or mental ill health - including how to respond to a crisis. It's not a therapists or counselling course, but it is the equivalent to being a physical health First Aider, just for mental health.
The course takes place in the Peacehaven & Telscombe FC clubhouse and is on June 26 and 27. The sessions run from 8.45am -5.30pm. You can read more about the course content here: http://mhfaengland.org/individuals/youth/2-day/
